42-49
By this time Oedipa, Metzger, and The Paranoids have gone to Fangoso Lake to find one of Pierce's land-holdings. They meet Manny di Presso who is suing Pierce's estate. Then, we are all of a sudden whisked into a story called The Courier's Tragedy. Later on, Oedipa tries to resolve/ look into the situation regarding the lawsuit against Pierce's estate.
31-42
Oedipa and Metzger have become somewhat close and it appears as though they are going to have a small "thing" between them. Oedipa talks about and compares herself to Rapunzel which is ultimately very confusing. She also goes on a rant about Pierce's extensive stamp collection. There are two groups introduced n this chapter. The John Birch Society and the Peter Pinguid Society. Oedipa meets Kike Fallopian, as in the Fallopian tube(s). Mike is a member of the Pinguid Society.

Journal entry #1 Lot
The first chapter of this book is mainly dedicated to introducing the characters, their features and their flaws. The main character, Oedipa Maas, is a woman who is the co owner or co executor of her ex boyfriends estate. Her name is obviously derived from Oedipus. Her husband, Mucho Maas, was a former used-car salesman turned disc jocked at KCUF radio. Mucho Maas, which in Spanish translates to "Much More." So far the book is a little strange.
